I was lucky enough to grow up in a Halloween neighborhood. Residents went all out with yard décor and the neighborhood parade quickly grew from tens to hundreds to over a thousand participants in only a few short years. I have so many memories from my years of trick or treating and most of them are tied to the people who made these nights so special - the Houges that hand carved over 100 pumpkins and gave out full size candy bars, the Marrs family who handed out Mars bars, and the Hargis family who gave out cans of Coca Cola. While I always dressed up with my neighborhood friends to go door to door, it wasn’t until college that my love of Halloween reached the next level through my annual quest to create a custom (and accurate) costume.
With a strong Halloween reputation, it was only fitting that my holiday tree have an entire collection for Halloween. I’ve worked to stitch and finish ornaments representing both classic Halloween icons and to tell the story of my many costumes. As we approach this special day, I’m sharing example of the ornaments I’ve stitched as well as some of the canvases in my stash (all with links!) so that you can build a Halloween collection of you own.
