There are a few days where you want to show your love and appreciation for the needlepointer in your life including Mother’s Day. If the special stitcher in your life finds joy in the rhythmic pull of thread through canvas and the satisfaction of completing a beautiful needlepoint project, why not give them a little something to celebrate their hobby. Whether a seasoned stitcher or just starting out, these gift ideas are sure to bring a smile to the face of your favorite needlepointer. On the next gifting occasion, celebrate your recipient by honoring the craft they love and supporting their passion, stitch by stitch.
Canvases - A hand-painted needlepoint canvas is like giving her a mini work of art. Go for something meaningful—maybe a favorite flower, pet, or a piece to honor a trip you took together.
Kits - Choose a needlepoint kit for an all inclusive present. Many stores and designers have kits listed on their website like KC Needlepoint and CoCo Frank. I also love the all inclusive self-finishing kits offered by Happy Stitching, these are great because not only do they come with the canvas and thread, but they also come with a self-finishing item and instructions for the ultimate instant gratification.
Scissors - A beautiful and sharp pair of embroidery scissors is both functional and collectible. Look for brands like Gingher or Sajou for quality and elegant designs. Choose gold-plated handles or decorative shapes for an extra special touch (like these, these, or these). You can find many decorative options on Amazon or at a local needlepoint store.
Personalized bag or tote - Treat them to custom accessories like a monogrammed project bag or tote. Etsy and specialty shops often offer custom-made options. My favorite bag for accessories (and really all sorts of things) is the large roadie bag by TRVL. It can be personalized by your favorite monogrammer (my go to is Murphy’s Law Monogramming and they always have the bags in stock).
Threads - Upgrade her thread stash with some fun new fibers. Try a variegated thread from Threadworx or one of the sparkle threads available from Rainbow Gallery.
Needlepoint stand or frame - Help them stitch in comfort with a quality needlepoint stand or frame. Floor stands, lap frames, or scroll frames allow for easier stitching and better posture—especially during long sessions (I’ll share more on stands in an upcoming post!).
Subscription to a stitching magazine or online class - Give the gift of inspiration with a subscription to a needlepoint magazine like Needlepoint Now, a seat in a class at a local store, or a weekend away at a retreat. It’s a great way to learn new techniques, discover new supplies, and join a community of stitchers.
LNS gift certificate - When in doubt, a gift card to a beloved local needlepoint shop or online store lets them pick exactly what they want—whether it’s a new canvas, more thread, or tools she’s been eyeing.
Finished piece custom framing or finishing - If they have a favorite finished piece tucked away, consider surprising your stitcher by having it professionally framed, turned into a pillow, or transformed into a keepsake box. Finishing turnaround can sometimes take months so it’s best to start this well in advance of the gift giving occasion!
Wrap It Up
I always think the gift wrap is an extension of the gift. Try pairing the stitching item with a bottle of wine or a homemade treat. Gifting a few of her favorite things shows just how closely you pay attention (and will hopefully bring your gift recipient a little extra joy).
Final Thought: Needlepoint is more than a hobby—it’s an expression of creativity and care. What’s your favorite needlepoint-related gift to give or receive?
