While decorative stitches are one of the things I love most about needlepointing, picking them can be a little overwhelming. I don’t always use the same stitches, but I definitely have some favorites that I gravitate to for different elements of the canvas. In this post, I’ll share some of my favorite needlepoint stitches for small background (including stitch diagrams and a stitched example). This could be the background area on a small sign, stand up, or ornament, but doesn’t have to be limited for use on those items. Ultimately, I hope this will serve as a resource you can refer back to regularly when planning stitches, including for background areas.
